Red Clay State Historic Park is at 1140 Red Clay Park Rd. S.W. The 263-acre park preserves the site of the last Cherokee capital and council grounds before their relocation to Oklahoma via the Trail of Tears. A visitor center features 19th-century Cherokee artifacts and art. Replicas of a council house, Cherokee farmhouse, three sleeping huts, corn crib and barn are on the grounds, as are an amphitheater, nature trails and the Blue Hole spring. Weekend summer programs feature nature walks, movies and demonstrations. Guided tours are available by appointment.
