Tennessee State Capitol is at 600 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.; entrance is on the west side of the building. A fine example of Greek Revival architecture designed by William Strickland, this 1859 building has been renovated to reflect the period. Guided and self-guiding tours allow access to the House and Senate chambers, the Governor's Reception Room and the restored State Library room, which features an original spiral staircase and detailed iron railings.

Statues and markers on the grounds include an equestrian statue of Andrew Jackson and statues of Sam Davis and Alvin York. Also on the grounds are the tombs of 11th president James K. Polk and his wife.

Note: A photo ID is required for entry. All visitors must pass through metal detectors; bags and packages are subject to hand inspection.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
