Texas State Cemetery is at 909 Navasota St. The graves of notable Texan politicians and veterans, including Stephen F. Austin, who brought the first settlers to Texas in 1821, are on the grounds. Monuments by such Texas sculptors as Elisabet Ney and Pompeo Coppini dot the property. The limestone visitors center, inspired by the Alamo and the San Jose Mission Granary, houses a museum detailing the history of the cemetery.
