El Paso Museum of Archaeology is 8.5 mi. n. on US 54, then .5 mi. w. to 4301 Transmountain Rd. (Loop 375). The museum presents dioramas, exhibits and artifacts depicting Native Americans of the Southwest and northern Mexico. Permanent exhibits include basketry, ceramics, wood carvings, beaded leatherwork, textiles and stone tools. A 1-mile nature trail includes native plants and replicas of a Pueblo ruin, an Apache wickiup, tepee poles and a rock ring. The surrounding park offers more than 15 acres of nature trails amid scenic views of the Franklin Mountains.
