National Museum of the Pacific War is at 340 E. Main St. The men and women who served in the Pacific, China, Burma, India and on the home front during World War II are honored here. The George H.W. Bush Gallery includes life-size exhibits such as the deck of the USS Hornet, an original two-man midget sub from the attack on Pearl Harbor and a replica of Henderson Field, Guadalcanal. The Admiral Nimitz Museum tells the story of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz through exhibits in his boyhood home, the historic Nimitz Hotel.

Pacific Combat Zone, a 90-minute outdoor living-history reenactment of a battle in the Pacific Theater, takes place on scheduled weekends and features actors portraying U.S. Marines as they capture positions from the Imperial Japanese Army. A torpedo bomber is displayed on the hangar deck of an aircraft carrier, in addition to numerous allied and Japanese emplacements.

Veterans' memorials, a combat veteran P.T. boat, the Japanese Garden of Peace, and the Plaza of the Presidents also are on the grounds.

Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 2 hours, 30 minutes minimum.
