AAA Editor Notes
Nuevo Santander Gallery, 717 N. Main St., is housed in an architecturally striking reproduction of a Spanish mission. The exterior walls were built with locally quarried stone, and the entryway's Mexican-made doors and ironwork date back to the 1800s. The interior is adorned with stone columns, Talavera and Saltillo tile and native mesquite wood. Depicted on the building's stained-glass windows is the map used by conquistador José de Escandón when he founded Nuevo Santander, a province comprising portions of modern-day northern Mexico and southern Texas.

The gallery displays artifacts, artwork and changing exhibits representative of the Spanish Colonial period and the Old West.

Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
