AAA Editor Notes
San Antonio Museum of Art is at 200 W. Jones Ave. The complex occupies the 1884 Lone Star Brewing Co. off Broadway. The historic brewhouse, with its modified Romanesque towers and turrets, is now the art museum. The West and East towers contain four levels of galleries. Glass elevators operate in each of the towers. The complex along the San Antonio River includes a 2.5-acre sculpture garden.

The museum’s permanent collections include Egyptian, Greek and Roman antiquities; American paintings; and decorative and contemporary arts. The Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Latin American Art features an extensive permanent collection of Spanish and Colonial art, modern and contemporary art, folk art and pre-Columbian art. The Lenora and Walter F. Brown Asian Art Wing houses Japanese, Korean, Indian and other Asian art.

With a collection nearing 30,000 works, and representing 5,000 years of history, the museum offers changing exhibits throughout the year. The growing Texas collection includes landscape paintings by San Antonio's Onderdonk family and Spanish émigré José Arpa y Perea as well as early Texas furniture. Other genres represented include African art, European art, Islamic art, Latin American art and Oceanic art. The museum also hosts a variety of special events and public tours.
