Utah's Hogle Zoo, 2600 E. Sunnyside Ave. (840 South) near the entrance to Emigration Canyon, houses a large collection of birds, mammals and reptiles in natural settings. Offering impressive underwater viewing opportunities, the Rocky Shores exhibit shelters a polar bear, three grizzly bears, seals, sea lions, river otters and bald eagles. African elephants live at Elephant Encounter, while male Amur tigers, leopards, lynxes and Pallas cats reside at Asian Highlands. African Savanna features giraffes, zebras, nyalas, ostriches and four African lions and can be seen aboard a miniature locomotive, the Zoofari Express.

Conservation Carousel features 42 hand-carved wooden animals and two stationary chariots. Lighthouse Point features shooting water, a large lighthouse slide, a shipwreck photo-op and a small “tide pool” where kids can get their feet wet and look for pretend critters while parents rest in the shade. In December, ZooLights features 250 illuminated displays.

Stroller and wheelchair rentals are available.

Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
