AAA Editor Notes
Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum is entered at 105 S. Fairfax St. Founded in 1792 by Quaker pharmacist Edward Stabler and opened in its current location in 1796, this is said to be Alexandria's oldest mercantile establishment. George Washington, James Monroe and Robert E. Lee were patrons. Old account books, prescriptions, early medical wares and a collection of period apothecary containers can be seen in their original setting. The same family continued operation of the shop until 1933, when it closed due to the effects of the Great Depression.
