AAA Editor Notes
Violet Bank Museum is at 303 Virginia Ave. This Federal-style plantation house served as Gen. Robert E. Lee’s headquarters for 5 months in 1864 during the siege of Petersburg. Civil War weapons and memorabilia, furniture, textiles and ceramics are displayed. Noted for its plaster ornamentation, the house retains its original woodwork, fireplaces and floors. On the front lawn is an enormous “cucumber tree,” actually a variety of magnolia, said to be more than 2 centuries old.
