AAA Editor Notes
Great Hopes Plantation is at the Colonial Williamsburg Historic Area off I-64 exit 238. Dedicated to African American history and rural trades, the site interprets the lives of enslaved people and middle-class farmers. Costumed re-enactors convey a variety of 18th-century agricultural techniques and activities. Buildings include a smokehouse, slaves' quarters and a carpentry shed; tobacco fields and animal pens also are on the grounds.
