AAA Editor Notes
Raleigh Tavern is at 413 E. Duke of Gloucester St. at the Colonial Williamsburg Historic Area, off I-64 exit 238. First established around 1717, the tavern became a center of social and political life during the 18th century. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry are a few of the patriots who helped make history here. It was in the Apollo Room that students from William & Mary are said to have founded the Phi Beta Kappa Society in 1776.

The building was reconstructed after a fire destroyed it in 1859. Today, it is the setting of comedy skits, dance programs and more.
