Theodore Roosevelt Island is accessible by pedestrian bridge from the Virginia shore; a parking lot is off the northbound lane of George Washington Memorial Pkwy. just n. of the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Bridge. The island lies in the Potomac River between Rosslyn, Va., and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
This 88.5-acre memorial honors the nation's 26th president. A massive granite monument includes a 17-foot bronze statue of Roosevelt and four towering slabs inscribed with his ideas about nature, youth, manhood and the state. More than 50 species of trees and some 200 varieties of wildflowers flourish. Wayside exhibits are in English and Spanish.
