AAA Editor Notes
Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge is at the tip of the Delmarva Peninsula; a visitor center is at 32205 Seaside Rd. The 2,972-acre refuge protects four habitats: the Chesapeake Bay, barrier islands, salt marshes and upland forests. Songbirds, raptors and monarch butterflies assemble on the peninsula for the fall migration. Fisherman Island, a military installation during World Wars I and II, is home to a variety of shore birds. Wildlife exhibits and a 2.5-mile biking and hiking trail are offered. Another walking trail leads to an observation deck, from which nearby Atlantic Ocean islands can be seen. A 120-ton, 16-inch World War II gun from the USS Missouri is located inside the bunker under the observation deck.

Guided tours are available. Recreational activities are permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
