AAA Editor Notes
Jeff Matthews Memorial Museum is at 606 W. Stuart Dr. An eclectic collection includes photographs of Civil War veterans, a covered wagon, a coin collection, medical and dental equipment, farm implements, musical instruments and more than 50 big-game mounted heads and animal-skin rugs. Also on display are Native American artifacts, including 10,000 arrowheads, some of which were used to create drawings of owls, eagles and people's faces.

Two restored log cabins and a blacksmith shop also are on the grounds. Jeff Matthews, one of Galax’s first settlers, established the museum with a friend, combining their collections of Native American artifacts and other memorabilia.
