The Salem Museum is off I-81 exit 140, 1.5 mi. s. on Thompson Memorial Dr., then .3 mi. e. to 801 E. Main St. The restored Williams-Brown House served as a residence, a post office and a general store during the Civil War. Built in 1845, the house sits on the Great Wagon Road where stage coaches, pioneers on horseback and Confederate soldiers traveled.

Exhibits include a collection of local Native American artifacts and displays that trace Salem’s history from its early settlement to present day. A garden is on the grounds.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
