Riddick’s Folly is at 510 N. Main St. Built in 1837, the four-story Greek Revival house features intricately carved moldings and detailed ceiling medallions. Its facade showcases Flemish bond brickwork and five frieze-band windows, while the interior of the 21-room structure contains 16 fireplaces and period furnishings. The house was used by Union Gen. John Peck as his headquarters during the Civil War. Also offered are special exhibit galleries about Mills E. Godwin Jr., Virginia’s governor 1966-70 and 1974-78, and the Civil War. An exhibit about the Riddick family includes clothing, personal items, paintings and portraits of family members.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 45 minutes minimum.
