First Landing State Park is at 2500 Shore Dr. (US 60). The men of the Virginia Company who went on to establish Jamestown first made landfall here on April 26, 1607. Encompassing 2,888 acres of maritime forest, the park offers about 19 miles of trails for hikers and bicyclists. Additional recreational activities include crabbing, swimming, saltwater fishing and boating.

Two visitor centers with exhibits relating the natural and cultural history of the area are on-site. One focuses on the ecology of the swamp; the other features a miniature aquarium and displays about the area's first European settlers and their interactions with Native Americans. Also showcased is a re-created Eastern Woodland Indian village.

Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available.
