Willapa National Wildlife Refuge headquarters is 8.5 mi. n. of jct. US 101 and US 101 Alt. at 3888 US 101. The refuge encompasses 14,000 acres of marshland, upland forests, pastures and tidal estuaries. Long Island has a stand of 1,000-year-old red cedars and tidal marshes that support deer, bears, elks, coyotes and beavers. More than 180 species of migratory birds have been sighted among the salt marshes and shifting dunes of Leadbetter Point at the entrance to Willapa Bay. The refuge also includes the adjoining tidal flats at the southern tip of Willapa Bay.

Camping is permitted on the Long Island Unit, but it is accessible by private boat only.

Camping is permitted. Time: Allow 4 hours minimum.
