AAA Editor Notes
Northwest Maritime Center is at 431 Water St., at the n.e. end of the downtown waterfront. Especially appealing to boating enthusiasts, the center celebrates the region's rich maritime heritage and Port Townsend's wooden boat culture. The Maritime Heritage and Resources Building at the corner of Water and Monroe streets features the Wooden Boat Chandlery, which offers boating equipment and supplies. The H.W. McCurdy Library on the second floor contains nautical books and charts, and an adjoining hall often displays changing exhibits.

A mezzanine in the adjacent Chandler Education Building allows visitors to observe artisans building and repairing wooden boats at the Boatshop. The Commons, a public open space facing the shoreline, has a compass rose, boardwalk, access to a small beach and the center's pier.

Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
