AAA Editor Notes
Green Lake Park is at 7201 E. Green Lake Dr. N.; from I-5 northbound take exit 171 to N.E. 71st St., then w. to E. Green Lake Dr. N. and the main parking lot. This urban 323-acre green space is a favorite destination for walkers and joggers. The lake, carved by a glacial ice sheet, and its banks are a natural preserve for numerous tree and plant species, birds and waterfowl. A path with two lanes—one for ambulatory users and one for cyclists and skaters—encircles the lake. Once around is 2.8 miles, just the right distance for a nice walk. Cedars, weeping willows, lush vegetation and attractive residential homes frame the water views at every turn.

The Green Lake Small Craft Center, at the lake's southwest end at 5900 W. Green Lake Way N., has rowing, canoeing, kayaking and sailing classes, and rowing teams often use the lake for practice. The center doesn't rent boats; you can rent a canoe, kayak, paddleboard, paddleboat or row boat from Green Lake Boat Rental, on the northeast side of the lake. Other facilities include a community center, swimming pool, pitch-and-putt golf course, sports courts, children's play area, beach and amphitheater. The park also is a lovely spot for a lakeside picnic.

Recreational activities are permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
