Manito Park is between 17th and 25th aves at 1702 S. Grand Blvd. Spokane's beloved greensward is the perfect place to while away a sunny afternoon: The park's 98 acres feature spacious lawns, groves of trees, walking and bicycle paths, historic buildings and five theme gardens.

The Renaissance-style Duncan Garden, centered around a fountain and gazebo, has a formal layout designed for the display of bedding plants. Rose Hill is an All American Rose Selections test garden that contains more than 1,500 bushes and 150 varieties of roses. The Nishinomiya Tsutakawa Japanese Garden, named for Spokane's sister city, contains a waterfall, koi pond and graceful statuary. The Joel E. Ferris Perennial Garden offers a changing display of flowering plants throughout the growing season.

The Gaiser Conservatory houses plants native to tropical, subtropical and temperate regions around the world; the displays of flowering plants are changed seasonally. Other gardens showcase lilacs—the city's official flower—dahlias, irises, shade plants and hardy fuchsias. Flowering season for the Duncan Garden is June through September; the Joel E. Ferris Perennial Garden is in bloom mid-April through October; Rose Hill blooms June through September. Complementing all the greenery are several Craftsman-style buildings, topiary shrubs, playgrounds, a splash pad, two-acre Mirror Pond and a historic stone bridge built in the early 1930s. A free concert series is offered Fridays June through August.
