Tu-Endie-Wei State Park is at the southern end of town at 1 Main St. and jct. Ohio and Kanawha rivers. The land was named “tu-endie-wei” or “the point between two waters” by the Wyandotte Indians. At this site on Oct. 10, 1774, Gen. Andrew Lewis and about 1,100 Virginia frontiersmen were attacked by Shawnee chief Cornstalk and a like number of Native Americans; the settlers were victorious. The day-long battle at the site is said to have been the opening engagement of the American Revolution. The Point Pleasant Battle Monument is an 84-foot-high granite shaft commemorating this historic event. The Mansion House displays period antiques and heirlooms.
