Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center is 2 blks. e. of Capitol Sq. at 1 John Nolen Dr. Frank Lloyd Wright proposed this 250,000-square-foot civic center on the shore of Lake Monona in 1938 but it was not completed until 1997. The complex bears Wright's signature style of dramatic open spaces, circular forms and expansive views of the outdoors. The rooftop garden has a memorial to Otis Redding, who died in a Lake Monona plane crash in 1967.
