Milwaukee County Zoo is 6 mi. w. on US 18 between US 45 and SR 100 at 10001 W. Bluemound Rd. More than 2,200 animals are displayed in five continental groupings. Among the animals are Humboldt penguins, African elephants and Alaska brown bears.

Apes of Africa features lowland gorillas and pygmy chimpanzees. Armadillos, meerkats and ring-tailed lemurs are in the Small Mammals Building. The Aquatic and Reptile Center features endangered Chinese alligators and a 23,000-gallon Pacific Coast aquarium. Other highlights include the Florence Mila Borchert Big Cat Country feline building and the Giraffe Experience.

Otter Passage features a year-round outdoor exhibit displaying a romp of playful, active North American river otters. Also included is an educational dairy complex, a petting zoo and a miniature train that circles the zoo. The Sky Safari chair lift carries passengers above several animal habitats including the rhinoceros and camel enclosures. SkyTrail offers a challenging zip line and 24-element ropes course.

Stroller and wheelchair rentals are available. Guided 25-minute tours are available aboard the Zoomobile tram.
