Visiting Savannah on a budget is easy with historic landmarks and riverside amenities in one walkable area. After you see some affordable museums, make sure to explore the public squares and parks around Savannah, which won’t cost you a cent.

Factors Walk

100 E. Bay Street

This eye-catching area used to be where cotton brokers — also known as cotton factors — priced the commodity. Now restaurants, inns and stores of all kinds fill the old red brick buildings on a bluff above the Savannah River. Be sure to look at the exteriors, even if you don’t go inside. (Stairs as well as ramps down to Savannah's River Street can be steep and uneven due to cobblestones, so be careful.)Read More

Forsyth Park

Whitaker St. & Drayton St.

Don’t forget to take pictures in front of this impressive fountain before you leave the Savannah historic district. (Despite the fountain’s custom look, it originally came from a catalog.) The park also is the place to stroll under shady oak trees and watch passers-by. For kids, the large playground beckons with a seesaw, slides and climbing structures.Read More

Savannah Belles

1 International Dr.

Named for Girl Scout founder Juliet Gordon Low and other notable Southern women, these complimentary ferries travel from historic Savannah to Hutchinson Island on the Savannah River. (Start from Savannah's Waving Girl Landing in order to also see the renowned statue.) You can board one just for fun. Passengers disembark by Savannah Westin Harbor Golf Resort & Spa and the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center.

Tricentennial Park

655 Louisville Rd.

This park honors Savannah’s history from 1733 onward. In addition to the free Battlefield Memorial Park, located at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Louisville Road, there are several affiliated properties, such as the Savannah History Museum, Georgia State Railroad Museum and Savannah Children’s Museum. Others are a short drive away and include Fort Jackson and Pinpoint Heritage Museum. Save money when you buy a three-park combination pass.Read More

Tybee Island

Tybee Island, Georgia

Are you looking to enjoy a short drive from Savannah? Beaches offer one of the best fun things to do on a budget. Though there is a nominal fee for parking on the barrier island, you can make this a budget-friendly day. Plan to bring beach towels and a picnic meal to North Beach, which offers an ideal beach-and-lighthouse view.
