AJ's...on the Creek

Chincoteague, Virginia
AAA Inspector 528: This is my favorite spot on the island for fresh-caught, simply grilled fresh seafood. The scallops and gamefish are wonderful.
Locally owned and family-operated, this restaurant offers a casual but romantic setting and great local seafood caught daily by the owner's husband. The grilled fresh fish is my favorite, as is the unusual artichoke dressing on the salad, but you'll also find steak, veal and pasta dishes. A pleasant screened porch sits over the small creek.

Atlanta Highway Seafood Market

Gainesville, Georgia
AAA Inspector 24: Not fancy, but everything I had was delicious! Straight from the water, cooked to perfection then to my plate, it doesn't get any better than that.
Ok, so it's easy to miss, the parking lot is small and they close at 7 p.m. In spite of all that, this little seafood market/restaurant is PACKED every day! This is family run with a friendly staff and some of the best Gulf shrimp and crawfish this side of Shreveport. Most of the seafood comes from the Gulf of Mexico and the owner/chef will prepare your choice any way you'd like it. Perfectly moist, grilled Cobia was my dinner. Everything is made in-house; you can't choose incorrectly.

A.W. Shucks Raw Bar & Grill

Norfolk, Virginia
AAA Inspector 55: Great Mid-Atlantic seafood such as all lump crab cakes, rockfish, oyster stew, and more draws me back here time and again.
This comfortable neighborhood seafood house has a welcoming interior with exposed brick walls and a long, friendly bar as well as a large covered patio to enjoy when the weather is nice. The seafood is fresh and mostly local and includes crab cakes, flounder, shrimp and a large selection of oysters from many areas. Other options include meatloaf, burgers and po'boy sandwiches. A long list of homey side dishes includes mac 'n' cheese, mashed potatoes, seasoned broccoli and Southern greens.
