Fort Beauséjour—Fort Cumberland National Historic Site

In 1755 a force of New England militia under British command claimed it following a 2-week siege. That same year, the British forced a mass deportation of Acadians from the site. Renamed Fort Cumberland, the fort withstood an attack by American revolutionaries in 1776. It was manned during the War of 1812 but saw no action, and its military role ended in 1833.

The museum at the visitor center contains exhibits pertaining to early military and civilian life. In addition to the star-shaped fort's restored stone ruins and grassy ramparts, the grounds include a cannon exhibit, picnic facilities and interpretive paintings. Allow 1 hour minimum.
