Ashtabula Maritime and Surface Transportation Museum (Ashtabula Maritime Museum) is off I-90 exit 229, 4 mi. n. on SR 11, w. on SR 531, 2 blks. n. on Franklin St., then e. to 1071 Walnut Blvd., in Ashtabula harbor. This museum, housed in the 1871 lighthouse keeper's quarters, features a 1950s-era New York Central Railroad dock and train display, marine artifacts, paintings, photographs, models of ships, a pictorial history of Ashtabula Harbor and a diorama of the 1876 Ashtabula train disaster. A restored pilot house and a scale model of a Hulett iron ore-unloading machine and miniature tools also are displayed. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
