Bondi to Coogee Beach Coastal Walk

The Basics

The trail begins by the oceanfront pool on the southern end of Bondi Beach. Only a few minutes into the walk, an ancient Aboriginal rock carving is visible on the left side of the trail. Around 10 minutes later, the trail emerges onto Tamarama Beach (cheekily referred to as “Glamarama” for its attractive denizens) and then family-friendly Bronte Beach, which has playgrounds, barbecue pits, and two natural rock pools. The trail continues on to Clovelly Beach before descending into Gordon's Bay and finishing at the north end of Coogee Bay.

A private or small-group guided walk can provide additional background to the places you visit along the route. Some tours also include hotel pickup.

Things to Know Before You Go

• The walk is ideal for travelers of all ages looking for an active day spent soaking up the scenery.

• While the walk is medium grade, there are some steep gradient paths and several staircases along the track.

• As you will be exposed to the elements, don’t forget your sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses.

• There are places to eat and drink at every beach along the route.

How to Get There

As the roads leading to or around the trail and beaches are usually busy and parking is expensive, public transport is recommended; all beaches along the coastal walk are serviced by buses. To get to the trailhead, take bus 333, 380, or 389 from Circular Quay, Elizabeth Street, Oxford Street, or Bondi Junction. Bus 373 can get you back to Circular Quay from Coogee Beach.

When to Get There

The walk takes around 90 minutes if you don’t stop. However, part of the appeal is lingering at the beaches and lookouts along the way, so give yourself a few hours to explore. Setting off early in the morning will help you beat any crowds and the heat. If visiting in the spring, look for migrating whales off the rocky coastal headlands.

Bondi Icebergs Club

Before heading off along the trail, set aside some time to enjoy Icebergs, one of Bondi Beach’s most famous attractions. This historic landmark is located at the southern end of the beach and has a large saltwater lap pool, as well as a smaller kids’ pool. There is also a restaurant and bar with views across the beach.
