Fort Clinch State Park

2601 Atlantic Ave., Amelia Island, FL, 32034

Fort Clinch State Park, 2 mi. e. on SR A1A to 2601 Atlantic Ave. at the n. end of Amelia Island, comprises 1,361 acres. The brick and masonry fort was begun in 1847 but never completed. Occupied by Federal forces in 1862, it was instrumental in introducing Northerners to Florida's warm climate, which resulted in a tourist boom after the Civil War. Rangers dressed in Union uniforms carry out the daily chores of garrison soldiers of the Civil War era. A free guided nature walk of the Willow Pond Nature Trail is available. Note: Use caution when launching a canoe or kayak, as St. Mary's Inlet has strong, unpredictable currents. Guided tours are available. Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
