Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center is at 4201 Giant Springs Rd. Exhibits detail the 1804-06 Lewis and Clark expedition, particularly the portion that took place in what is now Montana. Highlighted are the Indian tribes of the Plains and Pacific Northwest who aided the explorers. Rangers demonstrate skills used on the journey. A 30-minute introductory film by Ken Burns sets the stage for the visitor's own discovery journey. A second 20-minute movie depicts the arduous journey around the Great Falls of the Missouri River. The interpretive center, managed by the USDA Forest Service, overlooks the Missouri River. On-site features include walking trails, scenic overlooks and grounds landscaped with plants described in the explorers' journals. Outdoor living-history programs are presented in the summer. Audio tours are available in several languages. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
