Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site

1500 Monument Ave., Springfield, IL, 62702

Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site, about 2 mi. n. of the Capitol in Oak Ridge Cemetery, is an impressive monument containing Lincoln's tomb and the crypts in which Mrs. Lincoln and three of their four children are buried. Statuettes depict Lincoln during his career. Bronze tablets bear the text of the Gettysburg Address, Lincoln's farewell to Springfield and his second inaugural address. The cemetery's receiving vault where Lincoln's funeral took place is just north of the tomb. Also in the cemetery are memorials to Illinois' Korean, Vietnam and World War II war veterans. The 114th Volunteer Infantry Regiment demonstrates drill movements and performs retreat ceremonies in Civil War uniforms Tues. at 7 p.m., early June to mid-August; a living history interpretation of Lincoln's funeral takes place at 5:30.
