Museum of Flynderupgard (Flynderupgard Museet)
Agnetevej 9, Espergærde, 3060
Learn about the history of Denmark’s rural North Zealand at the Museum of Flynderupgard (Flynderupgard Museet), which charts the lives of the island’s farmers and fishers through the centuries. Set in a 19th-century country manor south of Elsinore (Helsingør), the museum features themed exhibits and a period working farm.
The basics
Tucked in the rolling countryside beside Egebæksvang Forest, the Museum of Flynderupgard comprises a main house and a side wing. Both display exhibits depicting the lives of local farmers and fishers, plus a glimpse of manor life in Denmark’s 1920s. The house is surrounded by period gardens and a historic farm that uses antique farm machinery pulled by horses and raises heirloom stock. The museum’s restaurant kitchen uses fresh produce from the farm.
Things to know before you go
You can easily combine Flynderupgard with a visit to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, 15 minutes to the south.
The Flynderupgard Museum’s restaurant serves traditional Danish recipes with produce from the farm, which is also for sale in the museum’s shop.
Kids especially enjoy seeing the farm animals and the horse-drawn farming equipment.
The garden and farm are a highlight of the museums, so dress for the weather to visit these outdoor areas. There are also picnic areas outside for an alfresco lunch or snack.
Admission to the manor and farm is free, making them a great budget-friendly option.
The complex is partially accessible for wheelchairs; contact the museum for more information.
