Sioux City Public Museum

Sioux City Public Museum is at 607 4th St. A 35-foot-tall mural of Sioux City's 1887 corn palace greets visitors as they enter the museum, after which a 12-minute film presentation orientates visitors to the area. Permanent exhibits include a collection of artifacts from Native American tribes, including items from the Mill Creek culture dating to 1100 A.D., a lodge house and a tipi; a transportation display featuring a 1901 Oldsmobile horseless buggy and a 1918 Mack fire truck; and a section about the importance agriculture has played in the area's economy. Children can dig for replicas of terrestrial and marine fossils in the Big Dig exhibit. Rotating exhibits also are offered. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
