Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer

Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer is at 3133 US 34W. This 200-acre living-history complex tells the story of pioneer life and town building in Nebraska. Visitors to the Stuhr Building, designed by noted architect Edward Durell Stone, see rotating exhibits and displays about Nebraska history 1860-1920. Native American and Old West artifacts are displayed in the Gus Fonner Rotunda. In summer the 1890s Railroad Town, with five historic homes including the birthplace of Henry Fonda, comes alive when townspeople demonstrate trades and conduct business. Additional outdoor exhibits include a Pawnee earth lodge, an 1893 farm, a rural school and church, 1860s road ranche log cabins (a road ranche was a type of way station for travelers), antique automobiles and farm machinery, and a walk-up railroad display. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 4 hours minimum.
