Taman Warisan Pertanian (Agriculture Heritage Park)
No. 7 Jalan P16, Precinct 16, Putrajaya, Malaysia, 62000
When Malaysia laid out the lakeside Putrajaya, they designed it as a modern garden city. The 35-acre (14-hectare) Taman Warisan Pertanian (Agriculture Heritage Park) is one of its gardens. You can discover crops from rubber and palm oil to tea, coffee, cacao, herbs, spices, and tropical fruit—and then savor them in the food court.
The basics
The park provides a fabulous opportunity to learn where food and commodities originate. Discover everything from traditional rubber tapping methods and processes for transforming cinnamon from tree bark to how oil palms destroy jungles worldwide and the painstaking process of cultivating rice. A driver can save you time navigating Putrajaya’s bridges and open spaces. Thankfully, Taman Warisan Pertanian is a common stop on Putrajaya half- and full-day trips and shore excursions from Port Klang, an hour away.
Things to know before you go
Taman Warisan Pertanian is a good choice for foodies, families, and first-time visitors to the tropics.
There’s a small charge to visit the park, but entrance to the food court is free.
The food court offers a wide range of Malaysian classics such as laksa, nasi lemak (rice cooked in coconut milk), and noodles.
Allow 30 minutes to one hour to visit the park or longer if you plan to eat.
Buggy tours are available for travelers with limited mobility or anyone who doesn’t fancy the sometimes hilly paths.
How to get there
Taman Warisan Pertanian sits in central Putrajaya, about 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) southeast of the Putra Mosque as the crow flies, but a much longer walk or drive. The T509 bus runs from Putrajaya Sentral MRT station to the food court, or you can drive, take a taxi, or rideshare with homegrown provider Grab. Putrajaya is just a 40-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur, so most travelers visit from there as Kuala Lumpur has a wider range of food, nightlife, and accommodation than Putrajaya.
When to get there
Taman Warisan Pertanian’s food court (visitor complex) is open 8am–11pm Tuesday through Sunday, with the park open 9am–5pm. The food court is busier than the park and can get quite crowded at lunchtime, so plan your visit before noon or after 2pm if eating is on your agenda.
Exploring Putrajaya’s gardens
Designed as a garden city, Putrajaya has plenty of spots to beat the heat. By night, the Secret Garden in Taman Putra Perdana comes alive with neon and string lights. By day, head to the vast Putrajaya Botanical Garden (Taman Botani) to dine by the lake or pose amid tropical flowers. Taman Wawasan boasts a lakeside beach, while Taman Saujana Hijau offers three themed gardens: European, English, and Oriental.
