A Wilderness Use Permit is required for all use of these campsites. This primitive campground is located on the Guadalupe Peak Trail, 3.1 miles from the Pine Springs Trailhead, and 1 mile below the Peak. The elevation gain from the trailhead to the campsites is 2,200 feet. The campground is on a small knoll and only minimally protected from high winds. Five designated campsites are defined by tent pads. These sites are exposed and high winds are common.
Wilderness Campgrounds may close due to emergency, maintenance work, or resource protection concerns. All wilderness campgrounds require a Wilderness Use Permit to stay overnight, and all campers must use the tent pads.
The Guadalupe Mountains weather can vary drastically in elevations ranging from 3,000 feet to 8,000+ feet. Spring and summer seasons bring warm and mild temperatures with occasional showers, while fall and winter can bring cooler temperatures with high winds that can reach over 70+ mph on occasions. Snow and freezing fog is also common during the cooler months of December and January.

The Guadalupe Peak Wilderness Campground located on the Guadalupe Peak trail, 3.1 miles from the Pine Springs trailhead, and approximately one mile below the summit of the peak. There is a sign on the right-hand side of the trail directing hikers to the campground area. The trail to the campground is approximately 150 yards. It is rocky, but well defined. Elevation gain to the campground is approximately 2,200 feet from the trailhead.
Permit Reservation Fee
All Wilderness Use Permits for overnight camping will require a $6 reservation fee (one per permit) plus a scalable $6 per-person-per-night recreation fee for each individual listed on the permit.

In addition to the $6 Reservation Fee, all Wilderness Use Permits for overnight camping will require a scalable $6 per-person-per-night recreation fee for each individual listed on the permit. For example, one person camping one night would pay $6; while three people camping one night would pay $18; one person camping two nights would pay $12; while three people camping two nights would pay $36.
