Drottningholms Slott

Drottningholms Slott (Drottningholm Palace) is located on Lovön island, west of the city center. The palace, home of Sweden's royal family since 1981, is a superb 17th-century baroque building in the style of Versailles. It overlooks Lake Mälaren amid its own gardens, a mix of French and English styles. On the grounds is the 18th-century Kina Slott (Chinese Pavilion), where Asian meets rococo. Nearby is the 18th-century baroque Slottsteater (Palace Theater), which is a venue for opera and ballet from May through September. There also is a museum.
