Alliston is the birthplace of Sir Frederick Banting, a pioneer in the discovery of insulin and a 1923 Nobel laureate in medicine. Banting lived in London at the time of his achievements.
Earl Rowe Provincial Park, 3.25 kilometres (1.9 mi.) west on Hwy. 89, is one of the largest provincial parks in southern Ontario and offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities.
