The Salish-speaking Nooksack people have lived in this area for thousands of years. European settlement began in the 1880s, and the town was named for George Deming, owner of the land development company.
Raspberries, strawberries and Christmas trees are local specialties. Deming Homestead Eagle Park, 3 miles east on SR 542, then south to 8160 Truck Rd., is a good vantage point for watching bald eagles feeding on spawned-out salmon from December into February; phone (360) 599-2776.
