DescriptionAfter encountering a severe thunderstorm in the area, Duwamish Indians referred to a nearby mountain as Enumclaw, or “thundering mountain.” The name stuck when the town was established in 1885.
The pastureland surrounding Enumclaw is a noted horse raising area, producing more than 20 breeds, including Thoroughbreds, Morgans, Paso Finos and paints. January through June are the best months to see foals romping in their paddocks.
