Lemmon straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border just west of Standing Rock Indian Reservation. It was one of the few places where cattle ranchers, sheep ranchers and farmers coexisted in relative peace during the turbulent days of Dakota Territory settlement. These days locally fashioned native stone jewelry and copperware is produced in town.
Shadehill Recreation Area, 12 miles southwest on SR 73, provides 110 miles of shoreline as well as boating and fishing opportunities with 5,000 surface acres of water.
