Mount Uniacke was named by Richard John Uniacke, an aristocratic Irish adventurer who became attorney general of Nova Scotia in 1797. Serving in the post for the remainder of his life, Uniacke was responsible for a revision of the laws of the province. He chose to build his estate in this area because of the land's resemblance to his ancestral home in Ireland.
