DescriptionOrmstown began as a small settlement of farms in the late 1790s and early 1800s. Around 1810 the area's population began to shrink as speculators finagled local farmers out of their land, and American settlers left for the United States under the growing threat of war.
Ormstown was the site of the Battle of Châteauguay, an important clash in the War of 1812. After the war the town settled into quiet prosperity as a farming and cattle raising center.
