DescriptionOpened in 1955, the 1,370-metre (4,500-ft.) Canso Causeway at Port Hastings prevents ice from entering the Strait of Canso from the north, thus providing a navigable harbor 16 kilometres (10 mi.) long year-round. Overlooking the strait and St. Georges Bay is 260-metre (850-ft.) Creignish Mountain.
Highlights of local history are the focus of the Port Hastings Historical Museum and Archives on Church Street in the village of Hastings.
