Description
Sandpoint, at the north end of Lake Pend Oreille, is a year-round resort town and artists' community that offers a wide variety of land- and water-based recreational opportunities. Park facilities at City Beach, west of First Avenue via Bridge Street, include beaches, two marinas, a boat launch and a pedestrian bridge over Sand Creek that links the park with downtown. Lake Pend Oreille Cruises offers a variety of tours; phone (208) 255-5253.
One of the West’s great railroad towns, Sandpoint is known as “The Funnel” for the major rail lines that converge here. More than 50 trains a day draw rail fans to the city. A brochure “A Rail Fan’s Guide to Sandpoint, Idaho” is available from the chamber of commerce.

One of downtown Sandpoint's focal points is the Cedar Street Bridge Public Market. Formerly a city bridge over Sand Creek, this renovated two-level structure is patterned after the famed Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence, Italy, and contains two levels of restaurants and shops.
