Swift Current
Turn-of-the-20th-century farmers and ranchers bolstered the local economy. Oil was discovered in 1952, and in the succeeding decades Swift Current became a business hub for the oil, gas and agricultural industries as well as the major health care center for southwestern Saskatchewan.
Swift Current Creek runs through town, and two nearby lakes offer recreational facilities. At Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park, a plaque marks the spot where pioneers once forded the South Saskatchewan River on their way into the wilds of the northern province. In the park's hills are several First Nations grave sites and tepee rings.
Doc's Town Heritage Village, 17th Avenue S.E. and S. Railway Street in Kinetic Park, has a collection of buildings typical of early 20th-century prairie towns, including a blacksmith shop, church and school.
