NATIONAL PARK

Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve

The islands support a variety of plant life and an abundant waterfowl population. The cold waters surrounding the islands harbor whales, seals and other marine creatures.

General Information

The park can be reached by air or, for those traveling by car, via Hwy. 138E. From Québec City, it is approximately 870 kilometres (540 mi.) to Havre-St-Pierre, where the highway ends. Boats depart Havre-St-Pierre for the islands from June to September; reservations are required.

Popular recreational activities include boating, sea kayaking, scuba diving and fishing. Boating season lasts from June to September. In addition, the islands' interesting topography and other features make for excellent wilderness camping. Note: Campers are advised to take extra provisions and water, and to allow extra time to return, because the unpredictable sea can cause delays.

Information about park interpretation programs may be obtained at the Havre-St-Pierre visitor center, 1010 Promenade des Anciens, (418) 538-3285, and at the Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan visitor center, 625 rue du Centre, (418) 949-2126. Both centers are open mid-June to early Sept.

ADMISSION

ADMISSION to the park is $5.04; free (ages 0-17). A permit is required for wilderness camping; the fee is $13.66. Fees are charged by private transporters authorized by Parks Canada to offer boat service to the islands. These fees vary depending on the destination and the type of service provided. Reservations are required for boat trips. The park website has a list of transportation providers with phone numbers and links.
