Bigfork
Glacially formed Flathead Lake is the largest natural body of fresh water west of the Mississippi River; at points along its 38-mile length the lake stretches 15 miles wide. Jewel Basin, one of the country's most popular hiking areas with 35 miles of trails, is 11 miles north. A Flathead National Forest ranger station provides information about recreational opportunities in the nearby mountains.
Cultural highlights in Bigfork include the Riverbend Concert Series, which stages Sunday performances throughout the summer. From mid-May through Labor Day, Bigfork Summer Playhouse presents a regular repertory of Broadway musicals; phone (406) 837-4886 for ticket information.
